Bacteriostatic water is the standard diluent for multi-use research vials because its benzyl-alcohol content suppresses bacterial growth, letting a reconstituted vial be drawn from repeatedly over its refrigerated shelf life. Sterile or distilled water lacks this preservative and is generally reserved for single-use preparations.

The method, step by step

Work on a clean surface with clean hands. The single most important idea is to be gentle — peptides are delicate, and rough handling can damage the molecule or create foam that makes measurement inaccurate.

  1. Wipe both stoppers. Clean the rubber stopper of the Retatrutide vial and the bacteriostatic-water vial with a fresh alcohol wipe and let them air-dry.
  2. Draw your chosen volume of water. Using the sterile syringe, draw up the amount of bacteriostatic water your target concentration requires (see the maths below).
  3. Add the water slowly, down the glass wall. Insert the needle into the Retatrutide vial and let the water run slowly down the inner glass wall — do not squirt it directly onto the powder, as a hard jet can damage the peptide.
  4. Let it dissolve and swirl gently. Allow the powder to go into solution on its own, then swirl the vial gently if needed. Never shake it — shaking foams and stresses the peptide.
  5. Check that it goes clear. A correctly reconstituted solution should turn clear and colourless with no visible particles. Cloudiness or floating material indicates a problem.
  6. Refrigerate. Once dissolved, store the vial in the refrigerator.

The concentration maths

The whole point of measuring your water carefully is to end up with a known concentration — the amount of peptide per unit of liquid. The formula is as simple as it gets:

The milligrams of peptide are fixed — that is whatever strength vial you have. The only variable you control is how much bacteriostatic water you add. More water means a lower (more dilute) concentration; less water means a higher (more concentrated) solution. The table below works this through for several common vial sizes:

Notice how the same 10 mg vial gives 10 mg/ml with 1 ml of water but only 5 mg/ml with 2 ml — doubling the water halves the concentration. Choosing your dilution is simply a matter of picking a concentration that is convenient to measure for your research protocol; there is no single "correct" ratio, only the one that suits your work.

Storage after reconstitution

Once a vial is reconstituted it is no longer a stable dry solid, so it must be treated as a perishable reagent.
